Working from home - as I had not happened before
After 5 years working in an office like most people do, for things in life I had to leave the country but keeping my same job, only now work from home as the company has offices in Medellin. This post is intended to tell my opinions and experience in just this week I've been in this mode. Friday, August 20, 2010

Obviously there are professions in which it is not possible to work from home such as a policeman, a cashier or a teacher, but for those who work in the computer world, now that I think makes perfect sense, since we only need a laptop with proper connectivity and ready.
One of the things that most annoyed me in the office is the subject of clothing, there is even a "dress policy" that tells us how we dress to go to the office. This policy makes sense if you work somewhere where we target groups outside the company, but the point if we work as programmers in an office where we do not visit anyone.
How can affect our work we go in sneakers and jeans? If Google is the technology leader in this time has a policy to make their employees go to work as comfortable as possible, because we have to follow in those old patterns of dress shirt, trousers and tie?

Is that the first advantage of working from home, I dress like I I, if I want to work in pajamas or shorts do, and in fact I feel more comfortable and better job.

Second is something very important: queues. Caracas queues are a nightmare, at least 2 hours per day spent stuck in queue, while working from home I wake up, brush me, I shower (if any) and ready, there are 2 more hours of life I've recovered, that priceless.
Third, no place like home. There is nothing more comfortable than being in your home, if gives me something to eat go to the fridge and eat it, if I get cold I tuck in my blanket, if I feel like going to the bathroom I was not quiet will be filled by someone else and I can eat lunch sentadito watching television. Also, if I put my music out loud I do and no one calls me anything.
But of course not everything can be rosy, one of the downsides, or rather the only one I can think of so far is that these all day alone. After being in an environment where you share 9 hours with a lot of people can hit you spend those 9 hours alone, but neither is the end of the world.
Productivity
I think one of the main reasons why managers may feel uncomfortable about the topic of working from home is the fact that they are not physically watch you. But a professional should not require that someone is watching all day to do his job, a supervisor must be able to see whether the objectives are being met or not, and the fact that someone is sitting in an office 8 to 5 does not necessarily mean you are working during those hours, you can be drooling. Instead here are now 5 and I have not finished something, I can continue a little longer because I will not be late getting home.
In conclusion, only goes a week but I like it this way of working, we'll see if over time does not bore me, anything they notice.
